Bruno
Prats
Born in Sète, France 12th March 1944, Bruno Prats is the grandson
of Fernand Ginestet, owner of Château Margaux. He graduated from
the Institut National Agronomique in Paris in 1966, from the Ecole Nationale
Superieure Agronomique (in viticulture) the following year, and worked
under his uncle Pierre Ginestet at Château Margaux in 1968 and 1969.
In 1970 he and his two brothers took control of Château Cos-d'Estournel,
the famed Cru Classé of Saint Estèphe, in the Médoc.
He had been CEO and winemaker there for 28 years when the family decided
to sell the vineyards in September 1998. His eldest son Jean-Guillaume
has remained at Cos-d'Estournel as CEO.
In 1990 he and three friends formed Viña Aquitania, a boutique
vineyard and winery on the outskirts of Santiago in Chile. In partnership
with the Symington family, in 1999 he created Chryseia in the Douro Valley,
lauded by critics as one of the finest Portuguese wines.
He is a member of the Academie du Vin de Bordeaux, a Vice President of
the Academie Internationale du Vin in Geneva, and an Officier de l'Ordre
National du Merite.
He lives near Lausanne in Switzerland with his wife France.
Hubert
de Boüard de Laforest
Born in Saint-Émilion, France, July 1st 1956, Hubert graduated
from the Institut d'Oenologie de la Faculté des Sciences de Bordeaux
and joined his family winery Château Angélus in 1980, taking
over as managing director in 1985.
In 1985 he became part-owner of Château de Francs in the Côtes
de Francs AOC (Bordeaux) and in 1998 purchased Château La Fleur
St. Georges in the Lalande de Pomerol AOC where he is producing La Fleur
de Boüard and Le Plus de La Fleur de Boüard.
He has consulted in a private capacity for Massaya Winery, Lebanon, (1997
to 2003) and in Spain and Saint-Emilion. He is also a partner in Bordeaux
négociant BVS, and a municipal consultant for the town of St. Émilion.
From 1990 to 1996, he was President of the Association des Grands Crus
Classés de Saint-Émilion. He resigned his post in order
to allow for the ascension of Château Angélus to Premier
Grand Cru Classé. He has been Vice President of the Union des Grands
Crus de Bordeaux since 1990.
In 1999, he was elected President of the Syndicat Viticole de Saint Emilion,
and is a member of the Comité national de l'Institut des Appellations
d'Origine Controlées.
He lives in Saint-Émilion with his wife and four children.
Lowell Jooste
Born into the drinks business owned by his father Duggie, in Cape Town
on the 5th May 1959, Lowell took a Bachelor of Commerce degree at the
University of Cape Town in 1981, qualifying as a Chartered Accountant
in 1982.
In 1986-87 he studied Viticulture and Oenology at the University of California,
Davis and worked the 1987 vintage at the Robert Mondavi Winery, Oakville,
Napa Valley.
Lowell is the fourth generation of the Jooste family to be involved in
the South African wine industry, and from 1988 to date he has been involved
in the management of the family's Klein Constantia Estate, of which he
is now Managing Director.
He lives at Klein Constantia with his wife Anne and their four children.
Trizanne
Pansegrouw
Trizanne qualified as an oenologist at the University of Stellenbosch
in 2002. Her practical student year was spent at Jordan winery is Stellenbosch,
and after finishing her degree she worked a full season at Moss Wood in
Margaret River, Western Australia. Following a further harvest at Domaine
Michel Fonne in Alsace, she returned to South Africa in December 2003
to work at Klein Constantia for a year, under Adam Mason. A further stint
abroad followed in 2004, in Bordeaux at Château Cos d'Estournel,
and in 2005 at Hubert de Boüard's second property 'La Fleur de Boüard',
and in the Rhône with Jean-Louis Chave. Trizanne relocated to Anwilka
in December to begin planning the new Anwilka cellar.
Piet Neethling
Piet gained viticultural experience in the vineyards of Constantia Uitsig
and Klein Constantia, and has been involved as viticultural manager in
the Anwilka project from the start - overseeing the vineyard replanting
from 1998 onwards. At the behest of Anwilka Vineyard, he spent time in
Bordeaux during the 2004 and 2005 vintages, where he concentrated on studying
their various viticultural techniques, including green harvesting.
Johan
Wiese
Johan is a leading oenologist who works as a viticultural consultant in
both South Africa and North Africa. After leaving his position of Chief
Viticultural Advisor at the KWV in 1989, he established his own nursery
and viticultural consulting business, advising a select group of Cape
wine producers.
Apart from other grape growing interests, he is Managing Director of VG
Nurseries, the largest supplier of grafted vines in South Africa, and
co-owner of an operation producing certified rootstock, clonal and scion
material. One of his areas of expertise is selection of sites for vineyard
planting, soil preparation and management decisions, as well as rootstock
and scion recommendations.
